The Mentor-Protégé  Program

The Mentor-Protégé Program provides assistance to small disadvantaged business concerns by enhancing their capabilities and increasing participation of such firms in Government and commercial contracts. The Government provides incentives in forms of credit against SDB goals or (in some instances) as direct Reimbursement Dollars for development assistance.  Congress established the Pilot Mentor-Protégé Program in 1991 under section 831 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1991, Public Law 101-510.

In June 2004, NGST's Mentor-Protégé Program was recognized at a Department of Defense event to honor the accomplishments of the U.S. Air Force Mentor-Protégé Program in a way never before done -- a five-panel exhibit displayed on the walls of the Pentagon.  The display, which highlights the outstanding program participants who won the DoD Nunn-Perry award for remarkable achievements in the Mentor-Protégé Program, also features the contributions of five Mentor-Protégé teams, two of which were from Northrop Grumman Space Technology -- Coast/ACM and Frontier Electronic Systems.
