These deployable deep truss structures have been used on SEASAT and RADARSAT 1 successfully to deploy and support large, high accuracy planar structures for synthetic aperture radar antennas.

These missions provided 4 Hertz natural frequencies with very low distortion of less than 1 millimeter over 15 meters length. In addition, they fold to form very efficient stowed packages for launch.

Astro has recently developed new methods of providing this function that are particularly useful for large planar antennas.
