Engineers load the backplane stability test article (BSTA) into the X-ray Calibration Facility at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. The test article will be exposed to temperatures as low as 400 degrees Fahrenheit below zero in facility’s three-story, 5,400 cubic-foot chamber to determine its stability in a cryogenic environment. A full-scale subsection of the James Webb Space Telescope’s backplane, the BSTA holds up to three of JWST’s 18 primary mirror segments. Photo: Courtesy of NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.
