Australian Telescope Image Reveals New Detail About Chemical Composition of Galaxy Centaurus A

A spectrum indicating the velocity of HCO+ molecules around the central black hole in the galaxy Centaurus A (NGC5128). Centaurus A is the nearest galaxy containing a supermassive black hole.

The observations made by the recently upgraded radio telescope reveal more detail than was previously possible. Indium phosphide low-noise amplifiers and digital receiver chips, designed by CSIRO engineers and fabricated by Velocium, are key components of the upgrade.
